summer or fall?

By | October 24, 2021

well at least I went viral for something good

I have a love/hate relationship with social media, but had my fifteen minutes of fame on Thursday-Friday when I tweeted about the ridiculous lack of recognition that SVU was getting for 500 episodes and the role that a woman lead, director and executive producer played. Somehow that was seen by the show runners and well, #twitterfamous. That was fun, and let’s just say my mentions were unreadable for a good 24 hours.

um, did we forget Halloween Gracious Home?

not… quite Target!

Summer is an exaggeration-it didn’t get that warm – but these made me chuckle when I was running Wednesday evening (more on that below) in a skirt and a tee shirt. From long sleeves on Memorial Day to short sleeves a week before Halloween? Weather this year has been nutter butter.

This coming week is the first time I’m really thinking about balancing runs and return to the office, but luckily it coincided with trying to get on a Sunday run schedule due to Haunted Island and the Malibu Half so it’s all good in the end. And yes, I’m going to miss a Monday, but is it really missing it if you plan ahead and run Sunday instead? I don’t think so. My runs. My rules.

Weekly Run Down with Kim and Deborah:

sun had its issues this week too

I could really identify with Mother Nature this week. The sun and I had a hard time getting going this week. I got out on Monday and Wednesday mornings, but it was a challenge. These views always make it worth it though.

Pamela Council, A Fountain for Survivors –  Times Square Arts

No, Times Square isn’t dead contrary to what the doom and gloom media is shouting with glee about. This was early Tuesday morning as I headed to a work event at the Marriott Marquis. This installation is poignant and powerful, yet dwarfed by height of Times Square.  While my goal is walking to and from work on my office days, that didn’t quite happen this week. I am out of practice laying out clothes and my bag the night before!

fabulous Friday

I did get out for a walk Friday morning before work, and there’s something about the serenity of Central Park that doesn’t exist after work or on the weekends when all the runners are out. So grateful to have the park as my escape and oasis.

um thank you Momma N!

and because I walked Friday morning, I could sit and read and take in this absolute stunner of an East River sunset-you know, that thing that doesn’t exist? Magic hour indeed. Speaking of magic, Alice Hoffman’s Rules of Magic has been an absolutely wonderful read and I’d binge it like I did Magic Lessons if not for an utter lack of reading time.

shockingly this wasn’t office run group

After my sub par distance Wednesday morning and knowing I needed to go to Target, I decided to literally run some errands. Of course that involved a quick visit to the reservoir with this “weed” I’ve fallen in love with. (Monday’s walk took me there too!) I don’t run twice in one day, except when I do. No injury/over training risk with the low mileage, and it was faster than walking errands. Glad I got there Monday and Wednesday as Office Run Group is getting too dark for a sunset ending. I do enjoy the amateur astronomers on the Great Lawn with Jupiter and Saturn playing peekaboo. That made up for missing the full moon.

Toto, I don’t think we’re in Manhattan anymore

On Saturday I was going to meet a friend for a run, but it didn’t work out weather wise, and I was feeling bleh. Nothing wrong, just poor sleep so I decided to rest some and run later. Later turned into sneaking it in before dark, which tends to happen if  I don’t go right out of bed. Oh well, worse problems to have. Nice to see fall on Randalls Island with the wildflower meadows, soccer games and sense of normalcy. I wasn’t sure how long I’d feel like going, but once I warmed up, I was good for 8. Should I have gone longer three weeks out from the race knowing I’m probably only running six next weekend? Probably. Do I care? Not really. Pushing it wasn’t going to happen.

hello A. Ham!

dust christen my new shoes!

Beth and I decided to have another go at meeting up and the weather was perfect fall — 48 degrees. I wasn’t worried about back to back runs since I didn’t think we’d go far (famous last words) and knew we’d run/walk. The leaves really haven’t changed much here, which is weird, but we did get one great one at The Pool, still one of my favorite spots in Central Park. We’d done seven miles before we realized it — oops. Let’s just say I did a lot of stretching when I got home. I guess my shoes are official now with the bridle path dirt path? Surprised it was that dusty after some light rain yesterday and humid temps all week, but glad for one more beautiful day before some rain.

Ah, your pictures are beautiful! Very artistic. I had a sudden flashback to Woody Allen’s movie “Manhattan” while reading your post.
I LOVE Christmas, but it’s one of my pet peeves that stores ignore Thanksgiving- after Halloween they go straight to Christmas. But now it does seem like they’re almost skipping over Halloween as well. P.S. I do like that Target mug though!

oh I definitely like the mug – and sweater weather. It was just funny on an unseasonable day.
Yep. This is the first year I’ve seen Christmas eat Halloween too. Bad holiday, stay in your season

Same here. I ran today so I will skip my Monday run. And I got in 7 instead of 10… oh well.

I’ve seen Xmas decorations here for weeks….

Today’s weather was perfect… not warm like Thursday or freezing like Monday. I oucld actually wear the right clothes.

Same. Monday night I needed a cup of coffee to not freeze on my walk, and Thursday I was in a skirt. Today was perfectly comfortable in capris and long sleeves. I’d have been OK in short sleeves if it were all run.
      It’s too early for Christmas.
You know what my training as been like, so yeah feel you on 7 instead of 10

Fall has been tree by tree up here. And I often miss a Monday! Better to listen to your body than cling to “guidelines”, at least IMHO.

It’s funny, I love the movie Practical magic, but the book — which I read WAY after I saw the movie (again & again) left me kind of meh. Even though the movie was relatively true to the book! Isn’t it weird how that happens?

About the only shopping I do is grocery shopping, so I miss all the seasonal stuff, which doesn’t really bother me! Except seasonal food!

Tree by tree indeed. That’s about what it is here.
Target is pretty much my only in person shopping. I’ve bought some clothes and sneakers, but all online. Gracious Home (local Pier 1 type) was just on the way to Target. It’s too early for Christmas, but I do love some of their stuff.
Very weird how some movies (or musicals in the cast of Wicked) are better than their source material. That was definitely true for Forrest Gump for me. Just finished Rules and taking a library break before I read Practical Magic and the series finale.

Your pictures have been amazing the past few weeks. Keep em coming! How fun to be twitter famous for a day. Maybe I should start over and watch SVU I never got it into it before. Have a great week ahead and enjoy your fall weather

Thank you! There’s some magic in the autumn light
I wandered back to SVU last season after some time away. I’m enjoying Organized Crime more these days, but there are some really good SVU episodes over the last 22+! years.

Congrats on the Twitter fame! My Twitter has gotten a lot more traffic recently, and I don’t think I have been doing anything differently. It’s my absolute least favorite SM channel, so I’m terrible about interacting with any of my followers (my bad). I agree with Deborah…you have been sharing some beautiful photos! Reminds me that I have not seen a sunrise in awhile because most of my runs are in the o’dark thirty hours these days.

Thank you! Normally October is great for sunrises and sleep, but the sun has been sleeping in as much as me lately. Clouds are winning along side comfy beds.
I go through fits and spurts with social. I find Instagram hard in that I never see friends’ posts unless I go directly to their timelines. It can be a more gentle place though when the world is fighty. I think twitter has always been my conversation home.

Your photos this week were just magical!

And how fun about the Twitter fame. I cannot remember the last time I saw an SVU episode. I was always a huge fan of the original. 500 episodes is pretty amazing.

Christmas decorations are creeping in here too…I really wish retailers would not rush the holidays. This time of year goes by in enough of a blur on its own.

Thank you! Something about autum light. You saw they’re bringing back the original? I was a huge fan too, but I’m really not sure how this is going to work without Jerry Orbach, even though it ran long after he’d left & subsequently died.
I recently got back into SVU, but I’m liking Organized Crime much more.
There’s a funny meme about the turkey yelling at Santa that it’s not your turn yet – so true.

Love your gorgeous shots as always! There’s something about the angle of light in autumn that is so magical. Twitter is pretty much dead to me. So difficult to get traction there….at least for me, haha!

Congrats on your Twitter fame — and props that it was for something positive. 😉 Our weather has been all over the place too — including nearly 80 today and then plummeting to the 60s (with rain) tomorrow. If I don’t run first thing, I have to really make an effort to run later.

Haha! I love your Twitter Fame post! You keep my dream of visiting New York alive every time I read your blog! It needs to happen! Poor sleep also leaves me feeling bleh – and I’m usually a good sleeper so when I have a poor one it hits me hard.

I hope you can come visit one day. Know your kids would also love it.
Poor sleep has definitely been a part of it

Oh gosh, I love those NYC shoes! I want them so badly!

my husband keeps saying he hears NYC is over, but I remind him that I have this incredible friend who kind of lives there and she assures us that things are very much alive and well. Hmph.

Love your Twitter fame! I’m not an SVU fan (I don’t watch much TV in general, so never got into it), but I love your passion!

NYC is very much alive and kicking. It had a power nap, but came back stronger. I’m glad I got these — the Thanksgiving ones are AWFUL
The last show I got into before the new L & O spinoff was CSI NY–in 2004. So I feel you

I totally agree with you about SVU! I have seen every episode of the show and I was also surprised at the lackluster lead up to the 500th episode. Mariska definitely deserved better!

NYC is still very much alive and well. One thing I really miss about living in the city was the ability to wake up with no plans. Just walking around the city, trying a new restaurant or going to a park was the perfect day to me.

Yes! Plans just seem to develop organically, which is some of what I missed during COVID.
When we meet up – and we will – we’re going to talk SVU as much as running. 😀 I haven’t seen all 500, but as I said to a friend I’ve watched 500 hours of SVU in a weekend. So bummed they used it as a reason to push Kelsey Grammer.
