this week’s runs were…

By | October 31, 2021
  • all in the evening
  • (with the exception of Thursday) on days I don’t typically run
  • scheduled around in person work and a COVID booster
  • in tandem with walks to and from the office on two days
  • the end of Malibu Half training

and… they happened. Which I wasn’t 100% confident in when I woke to a monsoon on Tuesday when I should have been running.

With 121.9 miles run, this was a monster month. It slightly edged the marathon’s peak month, and while I don’t feel overtrained (more on that over coffee on Friday), I am really looking forward to a down month with some travel and half marathon recovery.

In the mean time, linking up with Deborah and Kim to talk about the last week of October.

Seriously? I blinked and missed October.

they’re lucky they’re cute!

Mexico Week/el Dia de los Muertos

  • I didn’t miss a Monday: when it was a planned off day after eight miles each on Saturday and Sunday. I walked to the office and from an off-site planning session. Definitely lost some weight in the form of skin from new shoes, but they’re cute and well, that’s why bandaids were made. It’s not the shoes’ fault, unlike sneakers they’re not meant to be worn ~ 5 miles on day one. The walk between the office and the off-site session was a fun one with Rockefeller Center’s Mexico Week installation.

I found a window and a gorgeous sky

  • Tuesday: woke up to pouring rain, and went back to sleep. Luckily it cleared a bit after work and I got in five miles on the river. More East River sunsets that aren’t meant to exist and nice not to be constrained by time and just enjoy the miles. Humid between the storms, but still comfortable.

My NYC Marathon 1080s are still my walking shoes. And much more sensible than cute ones

Booster time!

  • Wacky Wednesday: spent the morning in the office after a beautiful walk through Central Park (in more sensible shoes) and then walked up to the best vaccination center in the city-not that I’m biased or anything. When it was announced as a vaccine site it was the one time I’d wished I wasn’t already vaccinated. The vaccine itself isn’t under the whale, but the post-injection observation room was on the mezzanine, which was awesome. Was feeling good right after the vaccine so walked home. Leaves are weird this year, but pretty.
  • Thursday: was feeling drained, as expected, post Booster. Did go out for a walk/run to get matzoh ball soup after work. Power nap or matzoh ball soup. Both medicinal.

this picture was Wednesday, but I ran this route Friday too, so it counts

gourd-geous finish

  • Friday: Saturday should have been my last long run before Malibu, but with a ferry and needing to deal with bag check during Sunday’s race I decided it would be easier to find the miles elsewhere. Woke with side effects almost non-existent and decided to run as far as I felt good. Meandered around the park chasing the last of the leaves before the third storm and somewhere around 7.5, I was wiped, so I headed home. Ended up at 9.5 which wasn’t quite the ten I should have done, but better than pushing it. I had one goal for this training cycle, and I finished it uninjured. Now for taper time bubble wrap.
  • Saturday: off. Errands between the rain drops. Overdue apartment cleaning.

Haunted Island Flat Cari

  • Sunday: Haunted Island 10K. More to come this week. Don’t usually post the sports bra in the flat Cari, but with it orange-ok salmon-I kind of had to. Different kind of destination race in a ferry to a ferry sense.

Your week sounds like mine. Rain on Tuesday and getting the runs done. But cleaning today. Would love to run that race just for the shirt. Have fun.

I had no reaction to the booster as well. Glad everyone is getting it.

Lots of rain everywhere last week! Your cute shoe issue sounds a lot like mine from a month ago…I’d worn my patent combat boots for the plane ride to DC, and then they stayed on my feel until after midnight. They accrued plenty of airport walking (and running) and a few miles of DC exploring, and THEN a few more miles of walking to/from the Iowa/Maryland football game. No blisters, but very tired and achy feet. I usually say “Fashion Before Function,” but it was kind of a fail for such a long day. I hope your 10K race went well!

Ouch! I’m generally more function over fashion, but some times I can’t resist the cute. I think your feet would have been sore even in the most comfortable of shoes on that kind of day.
      10K went well, thanks!

The wind and rain definitely made the beginning of the week a little strange but I am glad that the weather today seems pretty decent for all of the trick-or-treaters.

Congrats on getting your booster and I’m glad that the side effects were short lived.

It made it very Halloweeny, even though it cleared for the actual day.
Me too, and glad I was able to get it in to be hopefully boosted for the flight & Half

Wow on your 10k! Thanks for joining me after for that strength class — I had assumed it was a 5K. 😉

The leaves look pretty. We have some trees completely orange while some are still green.

Yay on the booster! I’ll have to see if my husband is planning to get one soon. I think I will wait a few months since I got my main doses so late.

Nice job on your 10K today! Wow, you had a super high mileage month too. You are going to crush that half in a few weeks. Can’ wait to hear all about it. This month really did fly by for me too. Thanks for linking 🙂

Glad you got the booster! Why not get that extra protection if we can! The Haunted Island 10k sounds fun!

Great miles for you this month!! I had a strong reaction to the booster, but it only lasted 36 hours. Glad you were able to get that race in.

I’m collecting data on the Covid booster! You had no reaction, some people have a strong reaction… trying to decide if I need to schedule it right before a day off. Good for you for getting yours!
Sounds like you had a great week of running. With all my foot issues, I’ve sworn off cute shoes forever. I’ll just be wearing running shoes the rest of my life.
Can’t wait to hear all about the 10k!

I’ll be honest, I wasn’t at full function Thursday and had a rest. I would say have a day off if you can, but it’s not strictly necessary. After a rest (no nap — helicopters overhead) I was much better and was 100% within less than 48 hours.
      Flats forever here too!

You’re lucky that you got a break in the rain on Tuesday — we sure didn’t. Sometimes it wasn’t pouring, that’s as good as it got.

Interested to hear how the 10k went. And matzo ball soup is always good. 🙂 and healing!

So much rain for you! Ick.

I think October went quickly, too. What’s up with that?

Your training seems really on point! You should be proud of yourself.

Yeah, that’s a mileage month that is not happening again. Completely by accident so it was no stress, luckily.
