7 years racing

Daylight Saving Reflections

it sounds so much weirder than seven years running, doesn’t it? Linking up with Deborah and Kim on the 7th anniversary of my becoming a Frozen Penguin.

I actually forgot it was this weekend until I woke up at o dark thirty to meet a friend who wanted to run during her study break. As the sun kissed Central Park I remembered the same over Riverside. Thankfully it was a lot warmer and there were no portapotties for warmth. I didn’t give any thought to running the race course. Other than sentimental reasons, I never loved that figure eight. I’ll say hi the next time I do the Lighthouse though. Nowhere better to celebrate than in Central Park, an oasis for which I’m grateful daily.

Since that frigid Sunday seven years ago, I have raced:

  • 13 half marathons
  • 11? 15K and 10 milers
  • 47 NYRR races (that skews much earlier)
  • 18 NYCRuns races, including six frozen penguins.
  • umpteen charity and other fun runs. I mean really, they’re all fun runs, if not why are we doing this?
  • the New York City Marathon!
  • in two countries
  • in five states + DC (I think that’s wrong, but I can’t think of any I’m missing)
  • Countless miles of smiles with friends. That’s definitely the one I’m most grateful for, and I’d trade any race for more of those

Do I have a favorite? I don’t think so. That 5K was a wonderful gateway drug. Grateful for every single one of these races and the runs in between them.

took seven years to get Air Cari

Do I have any goals for the next seven years? Not really any specific ones.

  • Stay healthy enough to run for another seven (or 56!) years
  • Racecations!

    Happy Anniversary!!

I’m so lucky to be part of your runs/races. Maybe more races than runs: NYC half, NYC full, Ted, CP half, Bermuda, MH half and hopefully many more.

My anniversary is April 1 for a run and maybe May for a race – 16 years ago!!!

Thatโ€™s a fun anniversary to mark! I think I did a race the first year I started running, especially if you measure across 12 months vs. within a calendar year.

I hope to be healthy enough to do a race with you one day!

I love that you mark this anniversary ๐Ÿ™‚ May you have many more races (and runs) ahead – and hopefully somewhere in there we’ll finally catch up to run one together!

What a great memory! Congrats on all you’ve run.

I don’t remember my first race–how sad is that? I know it was a 5k back in the late 1980s-early 90’s. Maybe Run for the Zoo in Lincoln Park?

Not sad at all. I did a bunch of random ones before, including indoor track. I think I’ve declared this my “first” since it was since I decided to run vs someone else signed me up/school activity
We have a run for the zoo here but I’ve never done it. I should fix that.

    I love this!

And I would love to get to race with you! I haven’t raced in NY yet, and even though I want to do the Wineglass as my NY race, I would be willing to make two trips!

Congratulations on seven years of racing!

Yep, no better way to celebrate that anniversary than a run in Central Park! Here’s to 7-14-21-28 etc. more years!!!

Happy seven years! My first race was a Flora Women’s 5k in about 2002, I know I knew Matthew as I have a photo of me and my friend in his flat! Hope to run with you again one day soon but we’ll manage wonky hi-five photos till then!

Great walk down memories lane! What fun. And how much joy and life running has brought, hasn’t it? Including this little community.
