and I’m back

By | April 18, 2021

turns out all the troubleshooting in the world on the comments wouldn’t have worked since it was a host setting.

porch is life!

I love my apartment, I love the city, but there’s just something magical about a porch to sit on. I escaped to mom & Bob’s for a day and uncovering the porch furniture is always one of my favorite projects.

pandemic hair no more

It’s a little shorter than I planned (and then it was in September and December), but I love it and am so glad to be done with two tone. Now to try and avoid being an accidental blue-haired lady until I decide what I’m doing with this longer term. It probably will deliberately turn pink or purple for a window before we’re back in the office.

That was about the extent of my excitement this week. There might be some to come on Sunday as I try to make spaghetti carbonara in a cooking class, but hopefully that will be more entertainment than excitement.

Weekly Run Down with Kim and Deborah:

  • never miss a Monday: hadn’t run my river route in a couple of weeks and while I do love cherry blossoms, it was great to be out the door and running with fewer street crossings. As much as I said I needed a break after two months of Matty Peloton challenges, he’s perfect for a Monday morning when I need something upbeat.

spring has sprung!

  • Tuesday: out the door for a walk as it had finally stopped raining and it’s as if Mama N turned on the photosynthesis. I swear my favorite non-pandemic upside to masks is that my spring allergies have been so much better. Still sneeze powered though.

fuzzy heads!

pink snow > Spring snow

  • Wednesday: another visit to my river route but decided to head south in case I had time to go longer. In today’s “running is mental” files, it’s much easier to pass the turn off to my apartment and keep going at ~2 than at ~ 4 miles. I didn’t have time to go longer, but I did get some nice tulips on East End when I looped back home. Had plans to have dinner and a walk with a friend after work and the rain held out for both.
  • Thursday: it rained. A lot. I got out for short walks before and after work and we need the rain, but rainy days mean nothing exciting happens on the fitness front.

yep nothing but a concrete jungle!

hi spring!

  • Friday: it was still raining but finally eased up enough to go poke around the park. This was on the south side of the Dene Slope and it was nice to run somewhere else and find new to me and purple! flowers. I love the loop, but I really love off roading.

sunny days!

mom’s back yard

  • Saturday: I don’t run back to back days… except that’s not really true anymore. I generally don’t run the morning after an evening run, but sometimes you do. Snooze was well worth it as it had warmed into the 40s and I could lose a layer once the sun came out.  Bob had a medical appointment in the city so he picked me up on the way home. We baked two kinds of cookies, I got a home cooked dinner (and a week of leftovers) and instructions on spaghetti carbonara, and it was just nice and almost normal, albeit masked. Baby steps forward.
  • Sunday: a walk and the Zoom cooking class. This is going to be fun!

I love your hair! Mine is over due for a cut, but with all the time my PT appointments take, it’s hard to take another hour away from work. I need to do it though.

    Love the flowers!

    The cooking class sounds fun.

Hope you find time for a haircut soon. Maintaining this will be interesting if I don’t decide to grow it back out. Was lucky too in I got an after work appointment.

The class was fun and I was shocked that I could make the dish. Unhealthy food is easier I think 😀

Love the fuzzy tulips and the rest of the photos, and good luck with the cooking class, adding to your repertoire!

I never used to run three days in a row and now I sort of can, which is a bit shocking … I also never bought shoes online without trying them in a store, buying a pair there and then buying duplicates online but needs must when I have a 4-mile journey to the nearest running shoe shop!

I can sort of run three days, but the third one is usually not worth it so I don’t unless there’s a good reason. Had a nice walk today ahead of all the carbs.
But totally with you on the shoes – I couldn’t imagine trying Brooks sight unseen but the things you do when stores are closed. Their 90 day guarantee definitely made me more comfortable and it’s part of why I got the 13s from them and not the local running store. The second pair(s) of each were bought local though

I bet its really nice to go to your mom’s and enjoy some time on the porch! Yay for a fresh haircut! It felt so good to cut mine again after almost 2 years. Not sure when I’ll actually go again though…

It’s amazing how refreshing it always feels, even if this was just slightly longer than normal. If you can find outdoor haircuts in your area and feel comfortable, they’re an easy solution. Mine was with students, but I’m not super particular, so that was fine

Glad you got the blog comments figured out. That stuff is so frustrating! Your hair looks nice. Yes, sitting on the porch is definitely relaxing. Have fun with your cooking class today. I think you underestimate your cooking ability!

Thank you! I love the style even if the sides are a little shorter than I wanted to tuck behind ears.

You were correct, I could make spaghetti carbonara. One day I’ll believe you and mom. One of the participants was vegetarian and she made it with asparagus. I’m not a big fan of asparagus, but I’d definitely make this with another protein as I’m also not a huge fan of pancetta.

Love your new hair. Pink or purple. Very cool.

Can’t wait until we have tulips. Now it’s pink snow which is better than real snow.

Nice you got to escape. Wish Albany was closer.

me too. Hopefully en route to a planned Rochester trip in May. Vaccinated makes things feel a little safer, although I’m not yet ready for buses and trains. Hope you stay snow free.

There is something about porch sitting 😉 I’m glad you got to escape for a little bit.

It is such a wonderful place to work from when there, and something nice about wicker where feet on the table is AOK!

It was the week for haircuts! My daughter got her long, thick curly hair cut SHORT for the first time ever- it’s a little hard for me to get used to but it’s definitely more “her.” Yours looks great- and it must feel great to get it done.
Love all the spring pictures! Everything looks so pretty.
Can’t wait to hear all about the cooking class!

Thank you! Hope your daughter is liking her hair. This is so much lighter but not sure how I’d be in Florida humidity.

Your hair looks great! I just got mine colored and the pink updated but it disappeared after she rinsed it. I couldn’t stay for her to redo it, so maybe next time. Boo!

I love spaghetti carbonara. The hardest part is keeping the milk from curdling with the eggs. It’s so tasty tho. I mean, bacon!

Thank you! Boo on your lost pink
No milk in this carbonara recipe, luckily. I think trying to avoid curdling would be way above my cooking skills.

Good luck on the zoom cooking class! I haven’t done one, but they look really fun. And what better way to learn than in your own kitchen! Pre-pandemic, I took a few cooking classes on-site and I don’t know much I retained, ha!

The tulip picture is incredible! Love all the flowers on your runs.

I have heard that about the masks! I told my husband he should wear one more. Luckily, despite the laryngitis, I don’t suffer with allergies.

    Love the hair. Very cute!

I kind of like my really long braid, but don’t really like the unshapen mass. I’ll get it cut someday . . . enjoy that carbonara (such an appropriate name for a dish).

Enjoy the cooking class! I always thought that “someday” I would learn more about the back end of blogging but I was always afraid that something would go boom and I wouldn’t be able to fix it.

So much goodness for you this week! Love the new do! I’m so with you on bringing out the porch/deck stuff for the new season. Big hooray for that. Your mom’s backyard is stunning. I hadn’t thought about masks helping with allergies but yay! Of course that makes sense! You can totes make carbonara. Can’t wait to hear all about it.

Loving your hair! I sometimes think about cutting mine shorter and this time I dared to have a long bang cut! whoo hooo getting daring! haha!

the tulips are gorgeous. I love flowers so much and really am so lucky that it’s one thing here that is cheap compared to buying flowers elsewhere! I wish I could get out to the flower fields but it will have to wait until next year (again). We also have some pink snow from the magnolias. gorgeous.

I LOVE your hair! I haven’t cut mine since December and am thinking of letting it grow. I might change my mind once Summer is here and it gets hot here. I hope that whenever I buy a house, it comes with a porch. It is the perfect place for relaxing and to read a book.

What interesting tulips! Tulips are my favorite. It’s too bad they don’t last as cut flowers because I would love to have some indoors. Boo on annoying technology, but glad you got it fixed!

Glad you’re back! I had a scary thing happen two weeks ago when a plugin automatically updated and crashed my site. GoDaddy was able to help me out, though.

I’m happy you were able to get out to see your mom and Bob. And I agree, uncovering the patio furniture in the spring is delightful and so much “easier” than covering it in the fall.
