MAYhem

for as much as “dancing” had to do with my running journey, the two songs somehow that aren’t on my playlists are: The Drifters Save the Last Dance and Shania’s Dance With the One That Brought You.

Yet it was with an earful of a hybrid of both song’s lyrics this week as I approached my 100th strength training class:
don’t forget who’s taking you home and in whose arms you’re gonna be, so darlin save the last dance for me / You gotta dance with the one that brought you, and stay with the one that wants you

Yep, four months from setting a strength training goal, I’ve done 100 strength training classes, mostly since joining Michelle on enCORE28 in February. So grateful to Peloton for helping me with a necessary routine and so many of you for posting  your classes of all kinds to give me ideas. What the hell does that have to do with dancing? Peloton doesn’t (seem to) tell me how many classes I’ve taken with a particular instructor, but I know at least 48 were with Matty Maggiacomo even though I swore I was only doing his March challenge through travel-quarantine. Was there anyone else’s class I’d take for 100?

A year after the last apartment re-arrangement, I was at it again this week to accommodate a new TV and its stand. On the plus side, I finally have an “away” for my yoga blocks, weights and mat. It’s the little things. I’ll never be a minimalist, but my kingdom for levitating storage. Photos to come.. for real this time. Right now it’s a boxy mess.

Weekly Run Down with Deborah and Kim:

the sun had a case of the Mondays too

  • never miss a Monday: sometimes it’s nice to see that the sun isn’t ready to go either. A good run with good music.

a tree grows in Brooklyn and a skyscraper in Manhattan

Alice in COVID land

  • Tuesday: after work walk with a friend to see some public art and a walk and talk in Central Park. If we’re Facebook friends, you might have seen my regular bumping of an Alice pic I first took last March 28. One constant in this upside down year. This is my standard shot, but walked into the park past the sculpture and maybe just maybe we can begin to hope that maybe just maybe we’re beginning to see the back of COVID with vaccines. It’s frightening to see what’s happening in Brazil and India though and I know that in reality we’re a long way from “fine”.
  • Wednesday: I’m writing this on Thursday and have zero recollection of this run without looking at Strava. It was that good clearly. 😉 In the world’s largest small town files, passed a friend who I was planning to see that night for dinner. We live a block from one another and are so bad at getting together. Rain dampened our original plans, but we had amazing pizzas and beer at a local Italian restaurant. Cinco de something or other, but really no appetite (no pun intended) for the lines at Mexican or Tex Mex places.
  • Thursday: office run group, please to have 5 miles sub 12 and pain free outside of initial 2-3 blocks of hammy waking up from sitting all day. It was a glorious day in the Park and my nightcap was the 100th strength class.
  • Friday: awaiting the TV stand arrival before heading up to Mom and Bob’s for the weekend. Good to see him getting around after surgery and to have something resembling a normal holiday weekend after this crazy year.

the trail is calling and I must go

Shop Local

Play Scrabble

  • Saturday: the choice when home is one of four routes: Rockland Lake, the Bridge, Hook Mountain or the Trail. Bridge was out because I didn’t feel like running next to cars, and really the trail is always my number one. To and from the old Piermont Station house is a nice 10K-ish and was pleased at the shape the trail was in after a snowy winter. The hamstring was slightly tender post-run, but nothing I didn’t expect with a little more foot work. The rest of the day was happily spent reading after I picked up the new Julianna Margulies book at my favorite bookstore, making colossal cookies and playing Scrabble. Wasn’t quite normal since my brother and the kids couldn’t come, but it was nice to not feel we needed hand sanitizer and masks to touch the tiles.

Mom’s porch, just a few years later

  • Sunday: take out from one of Mom’s favorite restaurants (and where she & Bob had their reception) and a low key day. I might finish Sunshine Girl before her virtual book talk on Wednesday, which is always a plus. Full disclosure in the first pic, we probably walked, but it’s fun to know the “race”  is still going on all these years later.

I can never remember what I did unless I look at strava and IG-very useful. Congrats on 100 strength classes. Do you notice a difference in how you feel or clothes fit?

Your Saturday sounds like my dream day- running, reading, cookies and playing scrabble. Well, maybe playing scrabble isn’t usually included in my dream day, but it sounds like a fun thing to do with Mom and Bob!
Congratulations on your 100th strength class! That must feel good. Sounds like you had a great week.

We’re huge board game nerds. I don’t know that Scrabble is our favorite, but it’s definitely up there with Tribond. Perfect rainy Saturday night even in normal times. Thank you!

Love the photos of you and your mom. So happy you were able to spend Mother’s Day with her and glad to hear Bob is getting around better after the surgery.

Congrats on hitting 100 strength classes! I also thank Peloton for showing me that I could get in great strength workouts at home.

Sounds like a good week, Cari! Compared to mr & living in a NYC apartment I’d call you a minimalist! I’ve gotten rid of a lot, still so much I need to release, though.

Sounds like running has been very strong!

Congrats on your 100! Did you get an email to order your Century shirt? It should come within a few days of your (first) 100th class in a given category . Matty is a great instructor. His banter can be silly but his workouts are no joke.

Yay for getting to see your Mom this weekend. Love the photos you sharedd

I just found that email – thanks for the heads up. It got filtered into my promotions tab which I so rarely look at. Look forward to getting it. Nice visible reward.
Thank you and thanks for being huge part of 100

I love that you’re still ‘going strong’ with your strength classes (see what I did there?). Sounds like a great getaway to your mom’s. Anxious to hear about the Juliana Margules book. I didn’t even know she had one out.

Of course, every book I put on hold at the library came in at once. So I’m busy reading…

PUNderful! It is hysterical how that happens, isn’t it? And never at a time when I’m flush with reading time. Posted the Sunshine Girl review to Goodreads, so hopefully you can see it. I was pleasantly surprised with it, and eager to hear her book talk tonight

100 strength classes!! well done! did you start this year or last? I can’t track mine the same way, I have to look at my garmin to get numbers.

Love the pics with your mom – especially the one “a few years” before 😉

Yeah just a few years, right 😀
I started in January, but not really in earnest until a February daily challenge
